Intelligent Energy Europe (EIE) is a European Community programme promoting energy efficiency and renewable sources. The programme aims to encourage the development, demonstration and take-up of energy efficient products, services and renewable energy sources. EIE supports the European Unions policies in the field of energy, as laid down in the 2000 Green paper on security of energy supply. It also supports sustainable development in the energy context, making a balanced contribution to achieving the general objectives of environmental protection, competitiveness and security of supply. The programme is divided into four fields of action,

Measures supported in any of the four fields can include analysis and studies in preparation for legislative measures, awareness raising and spreading best practice.
